Group Therapy in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire
Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which a small number of people meet regularly with a trained therapist to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences together. It is not a support group or a workshop — it is a structured therapeutic space with clear boundaries, held by a qualified practitioner.
The group itself becomes part of the therapeutic process. The relationships that develop within the room, the moments of recognition, the experience of being heard by others — these can be profoundly healing in ways that extend beyond what one-to-one work alone can offer.
Groups are kept intentionally small to ensure every participant feels safe, held and able to contribute at their own pace.
How can group therapy help?
Group therapy can be helpful for a wide range of difficulties, but it is particularly powerful for those who struggle with feelings of isolation, disconnection or a sense that no one quite understands what they are going through.
Being part of a small, carefully held group can help you:
-
Recognise that you are not alone in what you are experiencing
-
Develop greater self-awareness through the reflections of others
-
Explore patterns in your relationships in a safe, contained setting
-
Build confidence in expressing yourself and being heard
-
Experience genuine connection and a sense of belonging
-
Develop new ways of relating to yourself and others
Group therapy can be particularly beneficial for adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions and the isolating effects of new parenthood.

What happens in group therapy?
Groups meet weekly at a regular time, usually for 90 minutes. Sessions are held in a warm, private space in Berkhamsted, with a consistent group of participants — this regularity and continuity is part of what makes the group feel safe and productive over time.
Each session is guided but not rigidly structured. There may be a creative prompt or an invitation to explore something through materials or reflection — or the group may simply begin with what feels present for people that day.
I hold the space throughout, ensuring it remains boundaried, respectful and therapeutically focused.
Creative approaches such as drawing, collage, clay, paint or sand tray may be woven in gently, offering participants ways of expressing and exploring what words alone sometimes cannot capture.
Participation in any creative activity is always optional.
Everything shared within the group is confidential. Participants agree to a clear set of guidelines at the outset to ensure the space feels safe for everyone.
Bringing group therapy to your organisation
Therapeutic groups can be hosted within organisations, charities, community centres and healthcare settings, tailored to the needs of your clients or staff.
I have experience facilitating groups for a range of settings and can work with you to design a programme that fits your context — whether that is a closed therapeutic group for a specific client group, a series of wellbeing workshops, or an ongoing reflective practice space for staff and teams.
Creative and trauma-informed approaches are woven throughout, offering participants ways of engaging that feel accessible, gentle and effective — particularly for those who might find more traditional group formats daunting.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." — Margaret Mead
If you are interested in bringing therapeutic group work to your organisation, I would be glad to have a conversation about what might be possible.

Fees and availability
Group therapy is offered at a reduced rate compared to individual sessions, making it a more accessible option for those who want regular therapeutic support. Please get in touch to discuss current group availability, fees and upcoming programmes.
I offer a limited number of reduced fee places for those on lower incomes. If cost is a concern, please do mention it when you get in touch.
Ready to join a group
Taking the step to join a therapeutic group can feel daunting — but most people find that within a session or two, the warmth and safety of the space speaks for itself.
If you are curious about whether group therapy might be right for you, I offer a brief individual conversation before you commit, so you can get a sense of how I work and what the group involves before deciding.
